{UAH} MONUMENT FOR KIBAZO

$
0
0
MEMORIAL SCHOOL BE BUILT IN MEMORY OF ABBAAS KIBAZO NEEDED
President Yoweri Museveni did a good thing in Bugerere where he built
Ahmed Seeguya Technical College in memory of the late Ahmed Seguya,
the first NRM Army Commander, who was poisoned to death in the early
days of NRM/NRA bush struggle in 1981.
Seguya's mentor was Abbaas Kibazo, who was the leader of Abawejjere
group. He was based at Motajazi Kibuli, and belonged to UPC Buganda
under Godfrey Lukongwa Binaisa and Paulo Muwanga.
It was so radical that it joined Vietnam Solidarity Committee under
Dan Wadada Nabudere and by 1970, it had been recruited by Yoweri
Museveni.
In his own words, during funeral of the late Seeguya in 1991, the
President said that he recruited Abbaas Kibazo, Ahmed Seguya, Zubairi
Bakkhari and Haruna Kibuye in 1970, into an armed struggle. He said
that he used to steal pistols from President's Office where he was a
Research Officer, and trained them at Mmengo Kisenyi.
After 1971 coup, Museveni run away with this group to Tanzania where
they launched a guerilla war against Idi Amin regime.
He instructed them to return to do clandestine work and in particular
, he instructed Zubairi Bakari to learn Nubian so that he could spy
from Amin's inner circle.
Whenever Museveni was in Kampala, he told us at Old Kampala mosque in
1991, these Muslims were the one driving him in and out of the city.
After the fall of IDI Amin regime in 1979, Nabudere who was
Chairperson of Political and Diplomatic Commission of UNLF appointed
Abbaas Kibazi, Chairman of UNLF Kampala District.
It should be remembered that no Muslim was a delegate or an observer
in Moshi Unity Conference in March 1979. Even Ambassador Ali
Ssennyonga who used to recite the Holy Qur'an on Radio Tanzania Dar Es
Salaam during Luganda and Lugbara news and programs, was not allowed
in.No Muslim was even elected in absentia, on UNLF's National
Consultative Council, National Executive Council, Military Commission
or Political and Diplomatic Commission. In UNLF cabinet under the late
Prof.Yusuf Lule, there was no Muslim minister.
After May 12th coup by Military Commission chaired by Paulo Muwanga
and deputized by Yoweri Museveni, Kibazo and his colleagues joined UPM
where they were founder members. However after the rigged 1980 general
elections and February 6th 1981 Kabamba attack by Yoweri Museveni and
PRA that sparked off the liberation struggle, Muwanga who was then Vic
e President and Defence Minister, drove to Kibazo at Kibuli,
persuading him to return to UPC. He declined and started supporting
the struggle and was gunned down.
So in memory of the late Kibazo, a technical school should be built by
NRM Government either at Kibuli, his place of residence, or at Katwe
or Kisenyi , his group's places of operation.

Date of publication: 21 August, 2017

Abu Dhabi police arrested four people last week after a video emerged showing a man and a woman having a conversation in a car.

The youngsters from the Gulf were detained after a video was published on YouTube, which was described as "offensive to Emirati culture".

The accused say they made a video to warn women about the potential dangers of getting into cars with men they didn't know.

UAE prosecutors took a negative view of the whole thing, and ordered the arrest of the man and woman seen in the video.

Two other men who helped produce the film were also detained last week for "reckless behaviour".

Men and women who aren't from the same family are banned from mixing alone - without a family chaperone - in the UAE. Couples are charged with "beautifying sin" if they are caught - even if no remotely sexual acts take place.

The recent video, apparently showing six minutes of conversation in a vehicle between the man and woman was condemned by Emirati authorities as "against the norms of UAE society".

The video has since been taken down.

Brigadier General Tariq Khalfan al-Ghoul described the video as "reckless behaviour" that could "harm society".

He urged people to inform police if they witnessed similar "unlawful" behaviour.

The UAE's "electronic police" hunted down the four suspects from the YouTube account which posted the video, according to local media. They have been referred to the public prosecution service and are awaiting charges.

?I don?t get to live the life of a seventeen year old. My mom...

"I don't get to live the life of a seventeen year old. My mom is always working and I have a six-year-old brother. So I have to do everything that a mother would do. I take him to kindergarten, pick him up, feed him, clean up after him. I don't get to take breaks. I can't play sports after school. I can't get extra tutoring. But it's not my mom's fault. She's trying to save money for me to go to college. And she tells me every day that I'm a wonderful daughter. But it's been very difficult for me. The only good thing is that I can understand adult problems already. I don't take anything for granted and I know that life is not easy. It seems like my friends aren't even studying to get knowledge. They're studying to get an allowance. So I think I'm more mature than most seventeen year olds. But at some point I would like some time to take care of myself. Or maybe even have someone take care of me for a change."

{UAH} Police ordered to confiscate Chinese gambling machines

The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga, has directed police to confiscate gambling machines owned by Chinese in order to fight unemployment in Namasagali district.

Kadaga challenged the resident government planning officer in the District to find a solution for the big number of unemployed youth especially in Namasagali.

"The planning officer should make sure people get jobs and work to do. If not controlled, these youth go on to engage in gambling and all sorts of other wrong acts," Kadaga said

She went on: "As Parliament, we stopped betting and gambling but I hear things like ludo association; we need to do something about this, police should confiscate the Chinese gambling machines and arrest anybody who takes part in such activities."

She handed over an assortment of medical equipment worth Ushs 80 million to Namasagali Health Centre III.

The equipment and building materials meant for the construction of a Maternity Ward were donated by the Uganda Corporate League Association on Saturday, 19th August, 2017.

Namasagali Health Centre III is located in Kamuli district.

The Chairperson of Corporate League, Richard Okot, said they had approached the Medical Centre and asked them for the most important equipment that they needed.

"We have been able to provide the following items; adult weighing scales, baby weighing scales, height measurements for babies, maternity beds and mattresses," said Okot.

Other items included digital blood pressure machine, paracetamol tablets, sterilized surgical gloves, gauze, HIV/AIDS test strips, anti-malarial drugs and vitamin drugs. Building materials included cement, paint, water drums, jerry cans and buckets.

The Senior Medical Clinical Officer, Gertrude Nabirye, said that the Health Centre has been suffering with issues of beds and equipment.

"I encourage all of you to stop the practice of child birth at home; come to the health centre where we now have the right equipment and training to facilitate safe and healthy child birth," Nabirye said.

The Speaker supported the idea of constructing the ward and appreciated the work done by the Corporate League.

"When I heard that women in maternity share a ward with men I was taken aback; I immediately decided that something must be done about constructing a maternity ward," she said.

The corporate companies that took part in fundraising for the equipment include; CIPLA, Graphic Systems, Civicon Engineering, Mandela National Stadium, Darling, Entrepreneurs Financial Centre, Spear Motors, Centenary Bank, MTN, Civil Aviation authority, URA, Airtel, Movit, AAR, SPEDAG, Parliament of Uganda, Abim District Sports Outreach, UCDA, UNRA, and  UHMG.

President Siad Barre of Somalia cuts a tape to change the name of Coryndon Street to Said Barre Avenue. At the back is president Idi Amin Dada, while on the extreme right is the minister of foreign affairs, mr. Wanume-Kibedi

Hi guys and ladies,

Here is my beautiful encounter with Idi Amin (RIP). In the late 70's on our way from the pre-primary school (which by the way had no name and was located in someone's garage) this big bird we then called "olcopter" flew over our heads. Me and my friend quickly decided that going home could wait. We quickly ran to the field where this "olcopter" would land. The field was just behind our flat in the centre of Masaka Town. Guess it was not a proper airfield or air strip. But helicopters landed there several times. In the house where I lived we were never allowed to venture downstairs and out for even a second. On this God given day, I got an opportunity to follow the big bird. Although the noise was ear wracking, the rotating thing on top of the bird was most exciting. The big bird was hovering in the air for some time. I don't know whether the pilot was just worried that the two kids were in the way of the copter or he was still enjoying the air. Possibly his fears were unfounded, because the more the bird lowered the more we ran farther away from that terrible noise. Soon the noise reduced in intensity and we drew nearer to see this magnificent "olcopter".

A small door was flung open and a very tall, heavy set military man climbed out. He came towards us smiling and laughing. He lifted us in turns and threw us high in the air. But even after this exhilarating throw in the air our eyes remained on the "olcopter". So beautiful and attractive was this machine but also very scaring to approach. We did not even pay attention to the jeeps and other cars that came and picked the man who was already happily walking towards the town centre. All our attention was on the "olcopter".

Don't ask what time we left for home. All I remember is that we remained at the field untill the "olcopter" took off. It lifted off without the tall man it had brought. When it disappeared we also decided to go home. I didn't know what was waiting for me at home. It now dawned on me that we had spent half the day at the field and they had looked all over the place for me. The only place they had not checked was the field where the big bird had landed.

What followed needs no explanation to an African. I never like to remember how many strokes of the cane I got on my body that day. The canes were followed with the mentoring to repeat the "words never to go near the President ever again". What started as an exciting experience with the big bird ended in tears and mentoring not go near a person called President. From that day and the years of my life that followed, I thought the word "President" was that tall man's name. I learnt my lesson well. Up today I don't like being near people they call Presidents. Presidents are supposed to be bad people. If Presidents were good people why then was I punished for having taken the honour of receiving the President of Uganda at that field in Masaka town on that beautiful sunny day???? Hahaha! Later on in life l came to learn that the man who gave me that exciting throw into the air was by then the President of the Republic of Uganda. Despite that realization I still do not associate with green cars, green copters and people who were green uniform; because if I do that would mean that the sticks I got as kid were not enough (emigo tegyanoga). Presidents are to be avoided. They cause one problems. May the ALMIGHTY ALLAH forgive our brother and parent, Idi Amin for his shortcomings and grant him Jana in the life after death.

Dr.Ibra Ssendagire.

{UAH} Ethiopian maid thrown off 7th floor of Kuwait apartment returns home

Afuwa Kasule/ Mayimuna/Gwokto

Why do Arab muslims treat black african muslims in such a barbaric and sadistic manner, in fact worse than they treated black  African slaves in the 17th century?  I can understand them treating so-called infidels this way because the Koran allows it, but a fellow muslim? What does the koran say about this mistreatment of muslims by fellow muslims?

Ethiopian maid thrown off 7th floor of Kuwait apartment returns home

ETHIOPIA

An Ethiopian maid who was forcibly thrown from the seventh floor of a building in Kuwait has returned to the country four months after the incident that sparked outrage in the Gulf country and abroad.

The Addis Standard news portal shared photos of Adesech Sadik after her arrival in Ethiopia. She had previously been receiving medical treatment in Kuwait.

She made international headlines when her employer ostensibly filmed a video of Adesech holding on to a window frame with one hand and subsequently falling on a metal canopy seven floors below.

I wasn't trying to commit suicide, I was trying to escape from the woman who tried to kill me.

Local media reported that her employer was arrested for not helping Adesech who was rescued by health professionals and rushed to the hospital with blood oozing from her nose and ears as well as a broken arm.

The incident happened in the Sabah el-Salem area, and was widely condemned after the recording of about 18 seconds went viral on social media with rights groups calling for a probe into the incident and possible prosecution.

Her employer had explained that the maid was trying to commit suicide, a claim the injured victim rejected in an interview. "I wasn't trying to commit suicide, I was trying to escape from the woman who tried to kill me," she said in a video shared by Ethiopian media in April.

Most rich Middle East countries hire thousands of domestic helpers from Africa and Asia. Most of these women often complain of abuse from their employers. Recently Saudi Arabia ordered unregistered migrants 'amnesty' to return home voluntarily or be arrested and forcibly thrown out.

Ethiopia was one of the most affected countries. Despite two amnesty extensions granted by the Gulf State, the Ethiopian government said it did not get the desired response by way of returnees. The state carrier, Ethiopian, was roped in to help with flying back migrants.

Cannibal killer gives himself up because he's 'tired of eating human flesh'

THREE suspected killer cannibals have been charged after one told shocked cops: "I'm tired of eating human flesh." The man then handed over part of a human leg and a hand in a police station.

And more gruesome remains were found in a nearby house before officers were led to a woman's mutilated body under rocks.

Two other men were later apprehended.

The trio allegedly killed and butchered a woman before scoffing parts of her corpse in Estcourt, South Africa.

Police sources said the victim was raped before she was slaughtered.

Crowds of residents gathered outside the town's magistrates court as the trio, aged 22, 29 and 32, appeared on murder charges.

They and a fourth man, 31, are also accused of possessing human flesh and tissues.

They were all remanded in custody and are due to reappear in court next week.

Stunned local councillor Mthembeni Majola said one of the suspects led community members and police to the woman's body.

"It was buried under big rocks and we had to call a machine to remove the rocks," he told News24.

"They showed us the body parts in one of the houses.

Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said the three main suspects were arrested on Friday

"They admitted that they were waiting for the body parts to attract maggots. Apparently maggots collect money for them."

Cllr Majola feared there could be MORE bodies.

"It cannot only be one," he said.

"When the police were following this matter they discovered eight ears in a pot where one man was staying. That means there is much more to this."

Police spokesman Captain Charmaine Struwig said: "Three of the suspects face charges of murder and charges relating to the possession of human organs and tissue.

"A fourth suspect faces charges relating to the possession of human organs and tissue.

"The three suspects are alleged to have murdered a woman and then cut her body up.

"Allegations are that some consumed some of her flesh while some of her body parts were shared with the fourth suspect in Amangwe.

"Human remains were found at one crime scene in Estcourt and another crime scene at Amangwe.

      {UAH} History...?

      $

      0
Folks, a must read M7 could not provide the required number of graduated tax receipts for entry at Makerere University, the question is why couldn't he?

      Copied from somewhere

"If dead men could be back to confirm their stories! Here is one by a man who was once a representative of Uganda to the Middle East, Member and Acting Chairman of the Central Scholarship Committee in the Ministry of Education, Member of the once powerful National Association for the Advancement of Muslims (NAAM) in the 1960s; Deputy Chief Kadhi of Uganda to Sheikh Obeid Kamulegeya in the early 1980s; and Member of the Presidential Policy Commission of UPC in the early Millennium. This man is called the late Annas Kinyiri.

One day he received a note from President Apollo Milton Obote when he was acting as Chairman of the Central Scholarship Committee. The one with the note was a student eager to join Makerere University. Those days one had to submit 10 copies of one's Graduated tax tickets to be considered for admission to Makerere. In the note the President was asking the Committee to create an avenue for Yoweri Museveni to join Makerere without producing Graduated tax tickets because he could not produce them adding, "I want him to join Makerere because he is one of my UPC youth wingers who qualifies but he cannot meet the requirement of 10 graduated tax tickets". Graduated tax tickets were used to prove one's citizenship and belonging or locality.

As expected Annas Kinyiri surmoned members of his committee to consider the President's request. When the committee met it overwhelmingly rejected the request saying regulations must be strictly observed.

And that was what Annas Kinyiri put in the sealed letter, which Yoweri Museveni took to the President. When the Preident read it he wrote another one making another plea to Kinyiri, which Yoweri Museveni again dcelivered to him. After reading the note Annas Kinyiri again convened the committee to resolve the matter. The committee softened and decided that the student produces 5 Graduated tax tickets. That was what Kinyiri communicated to the President in a sealed letter. The Pesident realised he could not get what he wanted because of the strict regulation of producing Gradated Tax tickets. He had to think of plan B quickly. And there it was.

According to Annas Kinyiri the President wrote a letter to his counterpart in Tanzania, Julius Kambarage Nyerere, who was Chancellor of the University of Dar-es-Salaam, asking him to influence the university authorities to admit 5 of his young men for various degree courses. One of the young men was Museveni. Another was Muntuyera. The five were admitted, thanks to Nyerere's intervention.

In 1987, Annas Kinyiri was summoned, together with other Basoga elders that included a former Katikiiro of Busoga, WW Mwangu, to a meeting at Belleview Hotel. It was arranged by Kirunda Kivejinja. It was to introduce the new President, Yoweri Museveni, to influential Basoga elders. According to Annas Kinyiri, the President arrived with a gun on his shoulders. Kinyiri openly expressed his disgust that a son of a Mukopi was President and added, "When a country is ruled by bakopi then that country has no future". According to Kinyiri, even Mwangu expressed the same sentiments. When President Museveni told Kinyiri that he was appointing him to be Uganda's representative again in the Middle East, he declined. When the meeting was dissolved, the President, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of our armed forces, ordered the immediate arrest of Kinyiri and Mwangu. They were whisked off to Gaddafi Army Barracks. Later they were moved to Luzira, where Kagata Namiti and Paulo Muwanga were also incarcerated.

According to Kinyiri he was in Luzira until 1989 without trial. When he was released, he learn't that it was because of the intervention of the International Committee of the Red Cross. It had been contacted by the Uganda Christian Prisoners Aid Foundation led by a one Macharios Ayub. the Red Cross sent a delegation to Uganda. Government allowed it to access Kinyiri. It later asked Government to release Kinyiri. He was, but then he was immediately arrested and whisked off to Kirinya Prison in Jinja on accusation of being a member of Force Obote Back (FOBA). He was to be in Kirinya Prison until 1999 when the President sanctioned his release.

When he came out of Prison he was bitter because he never knew of the existence of FOBA and believed it was the creation of Government to incarcerate him.

Curiously, in his own words, Kinyiri was more bitter with Obote than with Museveni because he believed it was because he declined to respond to the note Obote sent to him to endorse Museveni's admission to Makerere without his father's Graduated tax tickets that he had been incarcerated.

When Obote heard that Kinyiri was out of Prison, he sent the former Chairman of UPC, who later converted to NRM, the late Badru Wegulo, to Jinja to bring the Sheikh to Kampala so that they could talk to one another on phone. Obote was in exile in Lusaka, Zambia.

When he was sure he was talking to Obote, Kinyiri told him that he was the cause of his suffering because he had sent Museveni to him when he knew he (Kinyiri) could never bend the regulations. Obote apologised and in 2000 appointed Kinyiri to membership of the Presidential Policy Commission of the UPC.

Kinyiri passed on about 5 or 6 years ago with his principles, ethics and morality and with forgiveness, but not before telling me this story.

The elderly are depositories of knowledge and information. I learn't that early in my life. I would never let old people hoad knowldge that would enhance my own in case they passed it on to me. So Kinyiri was one of the valuable resources that I would never let go without benefiting from. in terms of knowledge. He knew a lot about the Middle East. He had been involved in seeing that our children get educated. He was a politician. He had been a religious leader. He had been a teacher too. And he was a successful family man. Besides, he was an honest man who loved the truth. May his Soul Rest in Peace.

I have also become of age. I am sure those who have associated with me, and have been curious and inquisitive enough, have gained a lot of knowledge from me.

I appeal to all the elderly of Uganda to pass on knowledge that can help us know ourselves and country better. Knowledge is power. Where there is no knowledge people will suffer from ignorance, and ignorance is the worst disease of humanity. It knows no bounds.

      For God and My Country."

In a twist of events, the war veteran after handing himself over to police at Katwe Police station, Gwanga was whisked to Makindye military barracks, the headquarters of Uganda military police.

In a heated interrogation, officers from the army and Criminal Investigation unit squeezed the battle hardened soldier who stuck to his guns, maintaining that his actions were meant to ward land grabbers off his daughter's land, something father could have done
