An angry mob in Kaliro district has lynched two armed robbers including a recently passed police officer after armed robbery.
Henry Kintu the Kaliro district police commander confirmed on Friday that one of the thugs killed was a police officer who had just joined the force upon completing of training.
Kintu identified him as Joshua Mulyaka who had not yet been deployed and died together with his colleagues was burnt by residents.
''We have only identified one person who is a newly trained police officer to be among those thugs killed but his colleague's identity is yet to be established because their bodies were burnt after being killed," he said.
"The police are hunting tor the two thugs who escaped with a gun, "he added.
The deceased are said to be part of the four thugs who had robed millions of money at gun point from a hardware shop belonging to one Mutaki Muzaale, who is a prominent businessman in the area.
Police say the residents, on learning of the robbery at their colleague's shop, mobilized themselves at all exit routes where they managed to get the two who were moving on foot.
The other two who were riding on a motorcycle carrying the gun and money that they had stolen fired about six bullets in air to scare away the residents from following them but in vain.
