Kitgum police have recovered a three-day-old baby girl who was stolen from Kitgum hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
The baby was found with Judith Adong, a resident of Atwol village in Padibe town council, Lamwo district on Wednesday. Adong is believed to have stolen the baby from its mother, Kevin Alanyo, when she went for medical review.
Jackson Baryampika, the Kitgum district police commander, said Adong was picked up from her uncle's house in Pager division in Kitgum municipality where she was hiding.
She is in custody at Kitgum Central police station waiting to be charged with child theft. Adong reportedly told police that she stole the baby to appease her husband and had no intentions of harming it.
Dr Geoffrey Akena, the medical superintendent Kitgum hospital, said they were shocked by the baby theft.
