Who is likely to be the East Africa minister in the new cabby(Museveni's)? How much integration has so far happened since the East African Community(EAC) was relaunched a decade ago? I know we all have our justifiable fears but the federation itself is principally not a bad project. Borders are entirely imaginary and differences are man-made. At our core we all want the exact same things: good health, good transport, safety, happiness, and an as-good-or-better life for our children.
I think that the problems that led to the fall of the original EAC in the 1970s are still in place especially the economic imbalance amongst the member states. Uganda isn't regressing because that first implies notion of progress, which we don't believe in in the grand narrative sense – that progress is only a story told by the 'winners'!
